NEW COURSES FOR 201231st March 2012 - CREATIVE WATERCOLOURS FROM PHOTOGRAPHIC REFERENCE
Photographs can play an important role in the artists reference library, but to simply copy them without a creative plan can often lead to a static and creatively sterile result. On this course Paul will focus on the key areas of composition, design and planning your painting as well as combining references, so that when it comes time to put brush to paper, we take it beyond a straight copy of a photo and towards a more dynamic and creative result. Some reference will be provided but you will also need to bring photos of your own, see materials list for full details.
26th - 27th May 2012 - WATERCOLOUR SKETCHING OUTDOORS
Watercolour is the perfect medium for making quick colour sketches outdoors. Paul will guide you through his techniques for sketching on site and gathering enough information from which to make a finished painting back in the studio. The beautiful surrounding landscape provides plenty of inspiration and a trip to Llantony Abbey has also been planned to add to the creative mix.
This course is aimed at students who already have some experience of sketching and painting. Materials list provided.
23rd November 2012 - WINTER LANDSCAPES IN WATERCOLOUR
The landscape in winter can provide many creative themes for the watercolourist. This course will cover techniques for approaching various elements to consider for creating effective winter landscapes. Fog and frost, shadows on snow, puddles, bare trees, low winter sunsets and adding figures. The emphasis will be on practicing techniques and painting cameo studies rather than completely finished paintings. Materials list provided.
